On Sunday, June 25, 2006, Palestinian Hamas terrorists crossed in a tunnel from the Gaza Strip into Israel and attacked an IDF base at the Kerem Shalom crossing.

Two soldiers were murdered, four were wounded (one seriously), and one soldier was abducted alive back to Gaza. Two terrorists were also killed in the attack. Hamas took responsibility for the raid, with its spokesman, Sami Abu Zahari, praising its perpetrators as "heroes of the Palestinian people."

Most of the requests to organizations are people who have always been in a low income bracket, but Keren Hatzadik also handles special requests to people who used to be well off. Hakeren requested assistance from the Welfare Department, but were refused because requirements for help include revealing personal information. Hakeren explains; you can not ask an important, well-known person, who came in the past to all the important parties, all of a sudden to publicly ask for food. They are ashamed
